The Novice Rep team was off to Exeter this past weekend for their first tournament of the season.  The tournament was a round robin style with four teams competing in a point per period / points for wins format.

The boys started their weekend playing the home team South Huron.  The Stars came out strong and played a great first period and were tied at 0-0 after some great saves by Toby Byrd and the Stars getting some good scoring chances of their own.  Then at 6 minutes into the 2nd period South Huron struck first.  The Stars answered but South Huron scored again to win the period.  In the 3rd period both teams added one more goal to end in disappointing 3-2 loss for the Stars.

Game 2 saw the team facing Kincardine.  Kincardine scored first but the Stars quickly answered at 8:34 mark in the first.  The Stars surged again and went ahead 2-1 with a goal from Ryan Forwell with only 27 seconds left in the period.  Kincardine tied the game in the second and then pulled ahead early in the 3rd period.  The Stars picked up their effort in this last period and started applying more pressure to Kincardine.  The Stars tied the game at the 3:41 mark in the 3rd.  The game ended in 3-3 tie.

Game #3 required the Stars to face a strong Mitchell team.  These teams had met in exhibition earlier in the season.  Mitchell came out flying scoring 3 goals in the first period. The Stars answered with one of their own within only 42 seconds left.  The Stars added another goal in the second but Mitchell added two more to bring the score to 5-2.  The boys dug in for the 3rd and played their best period of the game and their hard work payed off with goals from Brayden Stumpf and Colton Henderson.  Final score was 6-4 for Mitchell.

Onto the B finals where the Stars would have to face to South Huron for the B championship.  In this game all the boys came ready to play.  The Stars came out flying and jumped to 2-0 lead in the first.  South Huron fought their way back to see the game tied 2-2 at the end of the second.  South Huron added another one in the 3rd to go ahead for the first time....but...the Twin Centre stars never quit.  The entire team kept the pressure on South Huron and tied the game at 3 all with 6 minutes left.  South Huron added another goal but again the Stars did not quit.  South Huron took a penalty and with goalie on the bench the boys tied the game with less than a minute remaining.  South Huron put one last push only to be stoned by an amazing glove hand save by Toby Byrd.  Onto sudden death overtime.  Both teams battled hard with scoring chance at both ends.  Finally with 2:35 remaining in OT Ryam Forwell took a pass and streaked down the left side of the ice hitting the top corner with his shot.  Twin Centre Stars were 5-4 winners and very deserved B Champions after a great game where all the players gave 110%.  What a team effort and a great finish to the tournament!  Way to go Stars!!!
