While the result of our Ridgetown tournament was not what everyone hoped for, the time spent doing some team bonding was awesome to have.....and the tournament ended with one of the most exciting games of our season so far.
Our first game of the tournament ended in a 3-0 loss. With a few injuries during the game and the boys continued to play hard and didn't give up right through the final buzzer.
Our second game in the tournament we faced an undefeated West Lorne team. The boys came to play and put forward an amazing effort through the whole game. After many chances throughout the game, the score ended in a 0-0 tie. This effort and showing really boosted the spirits of our team knowing that we can compete with this team.
Once the standings were figured out, we were scheduled to face West Lorne again in the semi-final game, hours after our 0-0 draw. Our boys again came out to play and battled hard against West Lorne. After the 1st period we were up 1-0 and after the 2nd period we were up 2-1. In the 3rd period West Lorne went up by a score of 3-2 and our boys began to dig deep. With our goalie pulled at the 1:20secs mark left, we were able to keep strong pressure on the puck in their zone, and with 26 seconds left we tied up the game 3-3. This result brought us to a 3 on 3, 5 minute overtime period...our boys again kept the pressure on and dominated this period but were unable to put in the winning goal. To finish off the game their had to be a shootout......after 3 rounds again we were tied.....so we had to go another 3 rounds which unfortunately West Lorne was able to get a goal in and win the game.
Our boys really did finish off the tournament in great style, taking an undefeated team to a tie and a 6 round shootout. A big thanks go to the boys for bringing their best games each day and also to all the parents for joining us for this weekend. Lastly, a big thanks to Jaxsen and his family for joining us on Friday after we had a player injured the day before.
Congrats to our scorers of the semi final game Sam E, Alex B (X 2) and Noah (in shootout).
