The U13 Rep team qualified for the Southern Counties Playoffs by finishing 2nd in their group of 4 teams. The Semi-final matchup was against Hagersville Hawks on March 23rd in Wellesley. The Twin Centre Stars would put up a 4-1 win in front of a sellout crowd punching their ticket to the Finals. With the Semi-final win, the Stars would face off against the 1st place team New Hamburg Huskies at Southern Counties Final Days in Paris on March 26th.
It was an exciting day to drive to Paris and compete in Southern Counties Final Days for the chance to be U13 Tier 2 Champions. One team would come away with the Championship and this game was an exciting back and forth match between two great teams.
New Hamburg would take the first lead of the game late in the first period, but that wasn't ok for the Stars as they would tie it up only about 1 minute later, taking a 1-1 tie to the first intermission.
The second period would see a quick goal by New Hamburg retaking the lead at 2-1. Hard work and perseverance would show as the Stars managed to tie it back up at 2-2 at the halfway point of the second period. A continued hard battle finished the second period and the score remained 2-2.
Again in the third period, New Hamburg would score to retake the lead again, now at 3-2. It seemed like it was when playing from behind the Stars rose to the occasion. It would take over 10 minutes of third period play for the Stars to even up the score at 3-3. The 3-3 tie would carry to the buzzer after the 3rd period, now sending the teams to overtime to decide the Champion.
With a strong effort, despite already playing 3 full periods of play, the Stars had a renewed sense of focus and energy to start the overtime period. A short 20 seconds into OT was all it would take for the Stars to score and be crowned CHAMPIONS!
Congratulations to the Twin Centre Stars U13 Rep team on their Southern Counties Tier 2 Championship. A great conclusion to a great season for these determined and hard working players. A Championship win would not be without a team picture celebration with their Championship banner and Championship medals.
