U9-MD Niagara on the Lake Winter Classic Champions
Congratulations to our U9-MD Stars on becoming the 2023 Niagara on the Lake Winter Classic Champions.
It was a very exciting weekend of hockey for our Stars going undefeated 5 and 0 to win the championship. Round robin play started out with the Stars winning the first two games by not allowing a goal and out scoring the opponents by a total of 18 goals. They then played a nail bitter in game three against the hosting team fighting back from deficits twice to win their third game 7 to 6. In the semi finals the stars once again over powered their opponent winning 10 to nothing.
Off to the finals against Chatham/Kent Cobras, again it was another hard fought nail bitter going down by three goals early but coming back to even the score 3 to 3 before the end of the first period. In the second period the Stars went down early again this time by two but this determind group battled back to tie it up 5 to 5 before the end of the second period. The Cobras came out flying in the third to go up by one early but that would be the last time they would see the lead as the resilient Stars would not be denied their fate. Putting out an unbelievable team effort the Stars scored twice more to win the game 7 to 6 in dramatic fashion. What a wonderful weekend it was for this group of amazing little hockey Stars, coaches and parents, we are so proud of you! Go Stars Go!
