Twin Centre Stars Atom AE - OMHA journey ends at Quarter Finals
This year's OMHA playdowns journey for the Atom AE team has come to an end in the Quarter Finals.

Not from a lack of effort or hard work, but the Atom AE Stars came up against an opponent who played a consistent puck pressure game.  The Atom AE Stars faced off against the BCH Ice Dogs in the Atom AE Quarter Finals.

Game 1 on February 10th was a hard fought battle in our home rink.  The score was tied through regulation and on a quick goal in overtime, BCH took game 1 with a 3-2 victory.

Game 2 saw the Stars head out on the road for a match up in the old Bayfield Arena.  With some adjustments to the old style arena, the Stars couldn't hold off BCH and lost 6-1 as the final buzzer went.

Down two games in the series, game 3 was back in Wellesley on February 18th.  The Stars were not going to give in to a hard fought battle and came out to play.  With a packed arena of home town fans, the Stars matched the BCH style of play with puck pressure.  Down 3-1 heading into the 3rd, a renewed charge from the Stars led to many scoring chances and control of the puck from the Stars.  With 6 minutes left, the Stars scored 1 to bring them within 1 goal of BCH.  After a tough penalty call with 3:36 remaining, the Stars needed to keep pressuring BCH and try to generate scoring chances while short handed on the penalty kill to tie up the game with not much time remaining.  As the penalty ended, the Stars gained control of the puck and our defence, turned forward#55 made a break for the net slipping behind the BCH defence and cleaning up a rebound to tie the game at 3-3 with 1 minute remaining in the 3rd.  The game would remain at 3-3 through the extra 10 minutes of overtime, giving the Stars the chance to extend the series and head back out on the road to Bayfield again for game 4.

Game 4 was the same style of game: hard work and puck pressure.  The Stars didn't give up for one second, outshooting the BCH team in game 4 but continuing to have a tough time getting pucks past the BCH tender.  Despite taking the lead at the beginning of the 3rd period, the Stars couldn't hold off the Ice Dogs from two more goals midway into the 3rd.  Behind by 2 in the game with 4 minutes left, the Stars made the decision to put a 6th player on.  Going 3 minutes with the empty net and clear control of the puck, the Stars tried everything they could to put a puck in.  Coming up short, a late empty net goal with 1 minute left put the score at 5-2 and as the final buzzer sounded, the Stars OMHA playdowns journey had come to an end.

As a recap in the room following the game, the coaching staff and players talked about how hard a series we put on and the fact that although the OMHA journey had ended, the Stars league playoffs are the next goal the team agreed to pursue with the same intensity and drive as their OMHA playdowns.

The Stars wish to thank all the fans for their support at the rink cheering them on this season.  Come out and cheer on the Atom AE Stars at the rink as they will continue to battle hard in Southern Counties league playoffs!

GO STARS GO!
