Stanley Taggart Memorial AE Tournament - Mooretown
Our first tournament of the season was in Mooretown for the Stanley Taggart Memorial AE Tournament from Oct 18-20.
The team travelled Friday to Mooretown to face off against the host Mooretown Jr Flags team in an afternoon matchup. After a slow start to the game, the Stars found themselves behind 0-5 after the first period. A re-grouped team came out for the remaining two periods scoring 4 goals, giving up 1 and just couldn't mount the complete comeback by the end of the 3rd period despite the hard work and pressure play over those final 2 periods.
Game #2 saw the Stars faceoff against the South Kent Lightning in the Friday night game. A quick skating Lightning team was matched by the Stars pressure play with game 2 ending in a 2-2 tie.
Our Saturday morning matchup for game #3 was against the Petrolia Oilers. Our Stars were ready to roll despite all the excitement and activity at the hotel the prior night and rolled through to a 9-0 win.
Game #4 of the round robin was against the London Bandits. A challenging team and a must-win scenario to move forward to a Top 4 position and into the semi-finals. Our Stars fell 3-1 to the Bandits ending our tournament run in 6th place. Outside of finishing in 6th place, we did tie for the lead in Goals For over the first 4 games (16) an average of 4 goals per game and a 0.593 Goals For percentage in the Round Robin.
It was a successful first tournament for us with many opportunities and experiences as a team.
Keep up the great work Stars, your teamwork is really starting to come out!
