Novice Rep Stars are OMHA "CC" Champions!!!!!!!
It took just 5 days for the Novice Rep team to go from OMHA finalist to become OMHA CC champions!  The condensed schedule had us playing 3 games in 5 nights against a very good South Huron team.

We knew coming into this series that South Huron was a hard working, positional team and we would have to be at our best to compete.  As the first game came, you could feel the excitement rising in the kids.  We had a goal at the beginning of the season to win the OMHA title and now it was finally time to deliver.

On our way to Exeter for the first game, we got a call saying the game was cancelled because of a power outage at the arena. Fortunately one of the families was already at the arena and said the power was on and the game can be played.  The OMHA refs had to be called back as well as the home team South Huron.  The game would eventually start around 7:30 with the Stars playing solid and leaving with a 4-1 victory.  Game 2 came back to Wellesley with lots planned for the kids.  The Wellesley AppleJacks allowed us to use their dressing room this game and the kids loved it.  Thank you to the Jacks for giving the kids this special memory.  There was a pre-game player introduction as well as the best song on earth "O Canada".  Twin Centre did a great job in making these kids feel important and proud of their accomplishments.  As the game finally got under way, we could see the boys didn't have the "jump" we were used to.  Thankfully strong goal tending and strong defensive plays at key moments won us the game 3-1 and had us going back to Exeter for game #3 with a 2-0 series lead.  We knew the third win would be the hardest as South Huron had been coming on strong.  Our team came out better to start this game and we grabbed a lead.  It did settle us but then we got too comfortable and allowed them back in the game when they scored on a perfectly placed shot... on a penalty shot.  With the game tied at 2, South Huron took a penalty in their end with 13 seconds left in the period.  We won the face-off back to the defense where a great wrist shot in the top corner put us ahead 3-2 with 10 seconds left in the second.  There would be no scoring the rest of the game but not for lack of trying.  South Huron pushed real hard to try to get a goal but again we stood our ground and would eventually win the game and the series.

I'm very proud of how hard the Stars boys have played this year.  It is great to achieve a team goal when every member of the team contributes to it!

Pictures of this exciting series to follow.
